***For 2024 Chicken Project Participants ONLY***

Documents to review:

LOCATION:  Lenoir County Livestock Arena (red metal arena at the corner of Fairgrounds Rd. and Hwy 11-55) 1791 Hwy 11-55, KINSTON, NC

Check-in time is 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (after checking in, you will line up with your bird to get them checked by an NC Dept of Ag staff member)
Show will begin at 5:00 p.m.

We will start with Showmanship and then move on to “type” classes.

12-24 hours prior to the show, please remove feed containers (NOT water) from your chicken; this will reduce the amount of “poo” for the show. ;-)  Be sure to bring your healthy chicken in a container/dog crate, etc and water for the show. Towels are always a good thing to have on hand to cover the crates and help reduce stress.

Our goal is to have the show completed in 2-3 hours (just to give you a ballpark idea for planning).

There will be NO food concessions at the show, so please plan accordingly.

There will be bleachers around the show ring, however we do encourage folks to bring chairs if they want to sit in the back holding area prior to the show. Once the show starts and the youth are lined up in the back area, we ask that parents move to the front to take pictures and enjoy watching their children show; we will have Extension agents and helpers there with your child(ren).

I’m also attaching handouts that were given out to participants on Saturday’s Showmanship Clinic. Please make sure your child is familiar with these type of questions and general information chicken information.
