go.ncsu.edu/readext?736346
Giant salvinia (Salvinia molesta) has been found in Columbus County. This is a federally listed, noxious, invasive aquatic weed. There were prior sightings, in several southeastern North Carolina counties, between 2000-2008; however, those sites were successfully eradicated. It is very important that this weed NOT become established in our state. The weed grows very quickly. It can block waterways, increase flooding potential, and degrade habitat.
