On September 25th at Hines Farm Park & Stables, we had our 2024 Onslow Dairy Derby! This event was a great opportunity for youth participating in the Onslow Dairy Project to practice their public speaking skills and show what they have learned throughout the project before the Down East Dairy Show on October 5th in Kinston, NC.
Successful Onslow Dairy Derby!
The Dairy Derby is a mock heifer show where community leaders come out and show dairy calves for the first time with the guidance of the 4-H youth! The show starts out with the youth showing the calves, and once they are finished it is time for the leaders to try! When the show was done, we finished the night with ice cream from Simply Natural Creamery.
The seven-week Onslow County Dairy Project is a great opportunity for 4-H youth to learn how to care for and show dairy calves. This project is lead by our Crops & Livestock Agent, Melissa Huffman, our 4-H Youth Development Agent, Tara Taylor and our Agriculture Program Assistant, Lacey Brown. These three individuals work hard to provide quality programs and experiences for the 4-H Youth in Onslow County!
