In recent years, homesteading has risen in popularity. Folks want to grow and preserve food, raise livestock, and live sustainably. Our Agents at Onslow Extension offer research-based classes each month focused on gardening, raising livestock, food preservation, and more.

- Gardening Basics Class
- Date & Time: May 7th at 5:30pm
- Address: 299 S Wilmington St, Richlands NC
- Learn the basics of gardening in Onslow County. Topics include soil types, plant selection, planting dates, and basic management to get you started.
- Pressure Canning Class
- Date & Time: May 14th from 10am - 1pm
- Address: 234 NW Corridor Blvd, Jacksonville NC
- Learn the essentials of safe pressure canning to preserve low-acid foods. There is a Jones County date for May 7th at the Filling Station. The class fee is $10. Register for the Pressure Canning Class
- Pasture Management Class
- Date & Time: May 16th from 10am - 12pm
- Address: 765 Cedar Run Rd, Jacksonville NC
- Learn about parasite control in pastures, hands-on fecal counts and do a pasture walk. Great time to ask questions & prepare your pasture for 2026.
- Growing Tomatoes Class
- Date & Time: May 28th from 6pm - 7pm
- Address: 58 E Doris Ave, Jacksonville NC
- Join us at the Jacksonville Library to learn about how to successfully grow tomatoes in your garden.
