This project is a lot of fun & a great educational opportunity for youth! Throughout the 7-week project, youth will learn:- the basics of raising & showing dairy calves
- breeds of dairy cattle
- how to identify parts of the dairy cow
- how to groom your dairy calf
- learn how to show
- keep project records
- explore milk production systems
2024 Dairy Project Information:
- Youth must be enrolled in 4-H online and have their health forms completed for safety reasons. You can enroll here: go.ncsu.edu/onslow4h
- 7 Week Program, meets twice a week on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6-7pm!
- Will meet at a Farm in Richlands
- Project fee is $50
- 100% Commitment is REQUIRED.
- Must adhere to 4-H Code of Conduct
- Youth cannot miss more than 2 practices.
- Will attend the Down Easy Dairy Show on October 5th in Lenoir County
Since there is so much interest in the project, there will be a lottery system to select participants.
- The lottery sign-up will be from July 29th-Aug 2nd
- Call the office to sign up at 910-455-5873
- OR sign up online (Google form will start accepting responses on Monday, July 29th at 8:00 and close at 5:00pm on Aug. 2nd)
- Lottery will be Tuesday, Aug 6th.
- If your name is drawn, forms and payment are due by 5pm on Wed, Aug 14th at 5pm.
- First practice begins August 20th.
