Based on 2017 USDA figures 34% of North Carolina’s total corn and soybean production takes place in 18 southeastern counties. In an effort to consolidate resources and increase programming impacts county agents within the district are working in collaboration. They have partnered with industry representatives and research specialist to host three regional corn and soybean field days. The focus at each field day will be, but not limited too; in-depth understanding of variety information, entomology/plant pathology, advances in technology, nutrient/water management, and crop management. The events have separate dates and locations (August 15 at Andy Herrings Farm 1345 Watery Branch Rd, Dunn NC. August 29 at Cunningham Research Station, Kinston NC, and September 4 at Roberts Farm 362 Dana Rd, Lumberton NC) all beginning at 9 a.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience presentations and observe field work being done by Dr. Ron Heiniger, Dr. Rachel Van, Dr. Dominic Reisig, Dr. Charlie Cahoon, local agents, and a few special guest speakers.
